Naval Surface Warfare Center Awards Large Contract to DigitalGlue for Next-Generation Playout Solution
LAGUNA NIGUEL, Calif. — November 3, 2015 — The U.S. Naval Surface Warfare Center (NSWC), Corona Division in Norco, California has chosen DigitalGlue to supply next-generation acquisition, playout, and storage solutions as part of a significant technology upgrade of the NSWC Corona’s Weapons Impact Scoring Set (WISS). The $1 million-plus contract specifies advanced media servers for the acquisition, playout, and storage for WISS, a training system designed to improve weapon firing capabilities for crews of fixed and rotary-wing aircraft.
For the WISS program, NSWC Corona operates a firing range in which military aircraft practice releasing weapons to strike specific ground targets. Cameras situated on the range record the activity and enable technicians to analyze and score the performance of the aircraft weapons personnel. When the cameras were recently upgraded to high-definition 1080p, NSWC Corona launched a project to upgrade and modernize the video recording and playout infrastructure, which currently supports only standard-definition analog video
NSWC Corona chose DigitalGlue as their systems integrator due to the strong relationships they have with best-of-class broadcasting vendors as well as their in-house software development capability. Part of this project required custom software drivers to be developed by DigitalGlue to interface seamlessly with the government-developed software that controls the WISS program.
