Major New York Broadcaster Partners With DigitalGlue to Upgrade Digital HD Newsgathering Operations

DigitalGlue to Supply Advanced Encoding/Decoding Equipment From Harmonic to Enable Simultaneous Satellite or Microwave Transmission of Two HD Channels

LAGUNA NIGUEL, Calif. — November 5, 2015 — A flagship television station in New York City has chosen DigitalGlue for a comprehensive upgrade of its digital HD newsgathering facilities. Using state-of-the-art Harmonic encoding and decoding solutions provided by DigitalGlue, the station will expand the capabilities of its mobile news vehicles for both satellite and microwave transmissions.

“We chose DigitalGlue and Harmonic after evaluating many different encoding/decoding solutions. We were sold not only on the price/performance of the package, but also on the outstanding image quality of the Harmonic gear and its ease of use — in particular the easy-to-configure operator interface, which is a big hit with our engineers,” said the station’s director of broadcast engineering. “Another key factor for us is the outstanding local support and service that’s available from the DigitalGlue and Harmonic teams. With the ability to transmit over both satellite and microwave using the Harmonic systems, we’ll be able to step up the quality of our remote news broadcasts.”

For the station’s solution, DigitalGlue provided a package of Harmonic ProView™ 7100 integrated receiver-decoder (IRD) systems and Ellipse® 3000 contribution encoders, the latter supporting both satellite and microwave feeds within a single chassis..

“This customer has a storied history in the evolution of television broadcasting, and its selection of DigitalGlue and Harmonic for such an important project is a real validation of the types of solutions we can offer,” said Sean Busby, president and co-founder, DigitalGlue. “The station needed to source the most bang for its buck in encoding/decoding technology, and Harmonic’s Ellipse 3000 series is known for providing the best value in high-end digital satellite newsgathering deployments. Likewise, the ProView packs scalable multiformat IRD, transcoding, and MPEG stream processing capabilities into a single rack unit — making it ideal for mobile newsgathering applications.”
